CPUK National Rally-Change of Venue

First the bad news: Unfortunately, the original venue for our National Rally, Brynkinalt Hall in the Welsh Borders, informed me last week that due to a change in circumstances they are no longer able to honour our booking.

We have explored other possible locations in the area but have not found anything suitable and with some doubts still existing about other of the weekend activities we were left with no option but to abandon our plan for the Saturday night National Dinner at Lion Quays Resort near Oswestry.  If you had booked accommodation there, you will have already received notification that your room booking has been cancelled.

Due to the short notice of this enforced change and the uncertainty regarding the number of Covid cases, we have taken the decision not to hold a pre-National Dinner this year. We are very disappointed to do this in our 40th Anniversary year and we know that it may seem to be an ultra- cautious approach, but we have to be realistic regarding what we can and cannot deliver safely for CPUK members.

Now the good news: We have been able to move the Rally itself to the British Motor Museum at Gaydon in Warwickshire on the same date Sunday 5 September.

This is a superb venue and as the Collection Centre has been opened since our previous visit in 2010, we believe it is well worth a return. You’ll be able to explore the Museum and Collection Centre as you wish as we have been able to negotiate free entry for CPUK members with a discounted entry fee for non-members.

The museum holds the largest number of British historic vehicles in the UK with some 180 in the main museum and another 200 in the Collection Centre building. Also present on the day will be around 100 vehicles of the John Cooper Works Mini Club which will no doubt be of interest to many of you.

In the meantime, I do hope that the enforced change of venue for the National Rally will not inconvenience you too much and you will let me know as soon as possible whether you plan to join us at Gaydon on 5 September.
