Salon Retromobile

Billed as the “premier salon” for those with a love of classic cars, this is a great show to attend. L`Aventure Peugeot Museum along with many French Clubs will have a massive stand as usual providing an eclectic mix of models of the marque. A must see show!
My visit to Paris was an extended one this year as I spent two days at the Show. Normally I have one day to enjoy the sights but due to a change in EasyJet policy I had to go out on Wednesday and return Friday. The main focus of our attention was of course the L`Aventure Peugeot stand which had its usual array of fantastic cars on show but undoubtedly the RHD 402 Darl`Mat was stunning! The stand has a boutique, a display of classic parts that are being reproduced by the museum as well as many stands for the various “Amicales” that are affiliated to the Museum. It’s a big commitment for those Clubs but the amount of people from all over the world visiting make it a “must do” event! During the event there were outside demonstrations of a Sherman Tank and The Beast of Turin, a massive Fiat that has been restored in the UK by Duncan Pittaway (whose father I used to work for). I was laughing at the sight of these monster machines firing up and driving up and down outside the Halls between corridors of people waved aside by one man! Not a barrier, marshal or Hi Vis jacket in sight! The UK Health & Safety police would have had a collective heart attack on the spot! The 1950`s restored Berliot Mobile Cinema was stunning (where do you start restoring one of those?) and there were simply too many brilliant exhibits dotted all around the two halls of the show. Artcurial held their customary auction with a 302 Convertible, a 201 Convertible and a 203 Convertible being the highlights for me. The concept cars were well represented with one such vehicle looking like it should have been on the moon with the Apollo missions. Riva boats had a stand there and the thing that takes you by surprise is not only the price tag but also the sheer size of them! Cars, Commercials, concepts, tanks, boats, planes, autojumble, models, auctions or cars for sale all of the highest quality it’s all there for you to indulge yourself. I promise you there are things at Retromobile you will never see anywhere else. My favourite car? A controversial one! A Bosseart bodied Citroen DS 19 Coupe. Sorry!
