Cars in the Park” has grown over the years to become a very popular event. Organized by the Rotary Club of Lichfield St. Chad, this charity event with donations this year to Midland Air Ambulance, promises to be yet another buzz of activity. Saturday has much to offer with the wonderful Festival Market with arts and crafts and unusual stalls set up around the famous Cathedral and definitely worth a visit. Or how about a tour of Dr. Johnson`s Birthplace or Erasmus Darwin House or maybe just a relaxing drink in one of the many coffee houses and pubs. There is much to see at the `Cars in the Park` event or out and about in Lichfield. Why not join us on the Saturday evening for the CPUK `Cars in the Park` dinner in a local restaurant. (booking essential via Janette Horton) However some basic event regulations to observe: • Free entry for exhibitors and visitors • All CPUK member cars are welcome in the CPUK enclosure but must be on site and in place before 11am (strictly no car movement on site after 11am) • For cars without a CPUK pass the parking charge in the event car park is £5 • Dogs on the lead are welcome on site. • Camping bookings available. Friday afternoon `set up`. Grateful thanks to Chairman Ian for his enthusiastic support and coming down from Liverpool with his recently acquired very prominent specially Club Peugeot logoed Peugeot van stuffed full with hospitality tents, regalia, display boards, flags and many other items! Friday afternoon, after the Rotary Club have pegged out the site, we were able to start erecting tents. Chairman Ian , husband John and Ian Carter all kindly joined in ….unfortunately the heavens opened and a heavy thunderstorm pursued with wind and rain did it best to make things very difficult….but we pressed on and they were soon up…hurrah! It is probably because we attend both Saturday and Sunday at the event that the organizers give our club a prime location on site. This year it was on the `main road` opposite the arena where there were falconry, JCB`s and Fire brigade demonstrations, etc. Excellent! Saturday is always the quieter day but it was a good day with lots of interest in our Club Peugeot display, with examples of the Peugeot range from 1907 up to present day including Pam and Michael Tyers immaculate 505 and Doug Whiffen`s sporty 304. Sunday. There was a good spectrum of Peugeots through the eras, from a first world War Folding Bike (reputed to be made with Peugeot parts) owned by Robert Champ to the sporty RCZ of CPUK Secretary Mike Lynch . How lovely to see so many CPUK families at this event! Members children and grandchildren too! Fantastic! There were three brothers and three generations…and that was just one family! Rob Exell brought his grandchildren Rory and Daisy in his 1989 504 Pick-up …Recent new members Richard & Jackie Naylor in their 307cc with their son Matthew and Andrew Mottram with son Logan joined us with the 1988 Peugeot 205. Tom Richmond brought his son Mikey, who has been coming to Cars in the Park ever since he was a baby. Another recent member Taye Riley came along with his recently acquired 205 Roland Garros Several members came from quite a distance to attend the event. Richard and Carolyn Barker came from Surrey in their Peugeot 607 and Bryan & Margaret Goodwin from Macclesfield with their 1990 Peugeot 205. In fact Bryan did very well to stop himself buying a very nice 106 that was for sale in the car park (egged on by Ian of course) However, `the biscuit` must surely go to Roger Turner who came up to `Cars in the Park` with his mum Monica from Okehampton , Devon. They did the journey `there and back` in one day, and his white 508 RXH Hybrid was immaculate! Amazing! The sun shone and hopefully a good time was had by all. Thank you all for coming and making `Cars in the Park 2016` another successful event. Also many thanks to all those who helped pack away at the end and a big `thank you` to Chairman Ian who at the end of the day battled back up the busy M6 to Liverpool with a stuffed distinctive `Club Peugeot UK` van!
