Alison Budd reports;
The classic car meeting at Bethune is always a good weekend for a wide range of car fans and a fantastic weekend for those car enthusiasts who also love rock n roll. The whole town gets behind the annual jollities as all the squares are transformed into either dedicated parking areas or music stages.
Previously, the Saturday has been the quieter car day with only a Concours d'elegance show being held. This year, the organisers had changed the weekend's format and far more cars turned out for a new road run although, personally, I was sorry to see the demise of the show and autojumble. But, John and I headed out to join the road run in our trusty 104GR and managed to get to the intended mid way point in time for a drink (although perhaps this was by judicially following a few locals who soon ditched the Tulip book and took their own route through the local lanes). Fellow CPUK members Jean and Odette played much more fairly in their 203 and navigated the whole way. Back at Bethune, participants could choose their evening's entertainment and many took the chance to see Jerry Lee Lewis perform.
The Sunday stuck true to form and we were delighted to see Richard and Carolyn strolling around enjoying the car display but sorry to hear they had had to resort to modern transport, there's always next year! A lot of local Peugeots turned out, including an immaculate 504 coupe and 504 cab.
If you've never taken your Peugeot abroad, this really is a great introduction to French car shows and of course, Pugs love the chance to (re)visit their homeland!
